Our Story – From a Local Dream to a Trusted Name

Est 2015 - Present Day
Proximity Plumbing began with one simple goal: to change the way people feel about calling a plumber. What started as a small family dream in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs has grown into a trusted name, built on honesty, care, and genuine relationships.
From the very beginning, our vision was never to be the cheapest or the flashiest. Instead, we focused on showing up when it mattered most, doing the job right the first time, and treating every home as if it were our own. As a husband-and-wife team raising a young family, we understand how important it is to feel safe, respected, and cared for in your own home.
Over the years, our team has grown and our vans have multiplied, but our mission has never changed: delivering plumbing with a personal touch. We’re proud that so many of our clients — from busy mums to grandparents — return to us time and again, knowing they can rely on us like family.
When you choose Proximity Plumbing, you’re not just hiring a tradesman — you’re choosing real people who genuinely care about protecting the comfort of your home and giving you peace of mind.

10 Years of Proximity Plumbing - The Journey So Far

Local Business Awards
When we look back on the past 10 years, it’s impossible not to feel both humbled and proud. Building a business from scratch has been one of the greatest adventures of our lives, and like most small businesses, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.
There have been long nights, early mornings, and the endless juggling act of keeping jobs moving, bills paid, and a growing team supported. There have been times we felt on top of the world, and times we questioned if we were doing enough. We’ve celebrated big wins — landing our first strata contract, hitting milestones we once only dreamed of, expanding from a one-man van into a fleet, and seeing our name trusted in households across Sydney.
But we’ve also faced the hard lessons that every business owner knows too well: jobs that didn’t go to plan, knockbacks on tenders, financial pressures, and the weight of responsibility when things don’t go right. Add to that the personal challenges of raising a young family alongside running a business, and it’s been a ride that tested us in ways we never expected.
Through it all, what has kept us going is the belief that Proximity Plumbing is more than just a plumbing company. It’s about people. The people who trust us with their homes, the strata managers who count on us, the team members who show up every day to give their best, and the families behind them.
10 years in, we’ve learned that success isn’t just about growth charts or sales figures. It’s about resilience. It’s about showing up on the good days and the bad. It’s about taking the knockbacks and using them as fuel to do better. And most of all, it’s about being proud of what you’ve built, even when the journey has been anything but perfect.
Here’s to the last decade, with all its triumphs and tribulations — and to the next chapter, which we know will bring just as many challenges and just as many reasons to celebrate.

500 Reviews Milestone

A Decade in the Making

Ten years ago, Proximity Plumbing was nothing more than a van, a dream, and a belief that Sydney deserved a plumbing company built on honesty, quality, and care. What began as two people taking after-hours calls and working late into the night quickly turned into a growing team of locals who shared the same passion for doing things properly — not just fast.
We’ve celebrated so many firsts: our first strata contract, our first apprentice, our first company vehicle wrapped in blue, our 500th review, our 2,000th, and now, a decade in business. Each milestone represents thousands of jobs, thousands of relationships, and thousands of small moments that shaped who we are.
But what makes us proudest isn’t the numbers — it’s the people. It’s the team members who show up every day ready to give their best. It’s the families who trusted us in their homes. It’s the young apprentices who started with us and grew into tradesmen we’re proud to call part of our story. It’s the repeat clients who call not just because we fix things, but because they know we genuinely care.
We’ve built this company on the belief that plumbing is about more than pipes — it’s about people. About earning trust, delivering value, and setting a standard that others look to follow. And while the tools have changed, and the trucks have multiplied, that purpose hasn’t shifted an inch.
This video is a celebration of everything we’ve built together — the highs, the lessons, and the little moments in between. It’s a reminder that behind every great business is a story of grit, gratitude, and growth.
To every client who’s called us, every plumber who’s worn the logo, every family member who’s supported us through the late nights — thank you. This is your story as much as it is ours.
Here’s to the next ten years — to bigger goals, better service, and the same unwavering commitment that’s carried us this far. Because no matter how much we grow, one thing will never change:
We’ll always be your local, trusted family plumber.
Meet the Family Behind the Business

Behind Proximity Plumbing are William and Emily — a husband-and-wife team raising their young family right here in Sydney. Like so many of our clients, we know the beautiful chaos of everyday life: the rush of school mornings, the little feet running through the house, and the comfort of knowing your home is a safe place for the people you love most.
That’s why Proximity Plumbing has always been more than just a business to us. It’s our way of caring for other families, parents, and grandparents in our community — the same way we care for our own. Every home we walk into, we treat with the same respect and attention we’d want for our children, our parents, or our neighbours.
When you call us, you’re not dealing with a faceless company. You’re welcoming a family into your home — a family who genuinely cares about yours, who understands your worries, and who will always do the right thing by you.

ACCOUNTABILITY
We believe trust starts with honesty — especially at 2am.
A plumbing emergency is stressful enough without wondering whether the repair will hold. From the first phone call to the final invoice, you'll always know where you stand. Clear communication, upfront pricing, and no hidden surprises — that's our promise, no matter what time of day or night.
The price we quote is the price you pay. No exceptions.
We don't believe in overtime charges, hidden fees, or prices that change once we're on site. Our flat-rate pricing is the same whether you call us on a Tuesday afternoon or a Sunday at midnight. You receive a fixed-price quote before any work begins, and you're never under any obligation. That's how pricing should work — especially in an emergency.
Your home is already dealing with enough. We won't add to it.
Boots come off at the door. Protective sheeting goes down before we start. And when the job's done, we clean up after ourselves — not just the repair, but the work area too. We know an emergency has already disrupted your household, so we do everything we can to leave your home the way we found it. Often, cleaner.
If it's not right, we come back. No questions. No cost.
Every emergency repair we complete is backed by our Lifetime Labour Warranty. That means if anything goes wrong with our workmanship — next week, next year, or ten years from now — we return and fix it at no charge. We also follow up after every job to make sure you're completely satisfied. We don't just fix the problem and disappear.

About William – Co-Director

William grew up in Vaucluse and attended Waverley College, where he built the values of honesty, respect, and leadership that still guide him today. At just 14, he began working at McDonald’s on Bondi Beach and later took on his plumbing apprenticeship while finishing high school — all while juggling late nights as a bartender in Kings Cross. Those early years taught him resilience, work ethic, and the importance of looking after people.
After completing his Certificate IV and Plumbing License, William went on to lead major plumbing projects across Sydney, including managing teams on the Barangaroo development. But his dream was always to create something of his own. With his wife Emily, he founded Proximity Plumbing to bring a family-first, transparent, and community-minded approach to plumbing.
Today, William is not only a director but also a husband, father, and proud local. His mission is simple: to give clients the confidence of knowing they’re dealing with real people who genuinely care.
MEET THE TEAM
About Emily – Co-Director

Emily’s career began as a flight attendant with Virgin Australia, but her true passion revealed itself when she joined William in building Proximity Plumbing. What started as a supportive role in marketing quickly grew into full-time leadership, and today Emily manages two offices — Dover Heights and Waverley — while also serving as the head of culture and growth.
Emily is the heartbeat of Proximity Plumbing. She sets the tone for the team, making sure the culture reflects family values, genuine care, and trust — qualities that clients feel from the very first phone call. Her leadership is not just about systems and scheduling, but about creating an environment where every staff member is valued, motivated, and supported to do their best work.
With a clear vision for growth, Emily has helped position Proximity Plumbing as a household name in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. She combines her organisational strength with her passion for people, ensuring that the business doesn’t just grow in size, but grows stronger in reputation, community connection, and customer trust.

In The Community For The Community
Proximity Plumbing isn’t just based in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs – we’re woven into the community itself. This is where we live, raise our kids, and share in the everyday life of our neighbours.
That’s why giving back matters to us. From sponsoring local schools and events to lending a hand when someone nearby needs support, we see plumbing as only one part of what we do.
Because being a good plumber isn’t just about fixing leaks under the sink – it’s about showing up, standing together, and strengthening the community we’re proud to call home.

The next decade for Proximity Plumbing will be about more than just fixing leaks. Our goal is to set the standard for what a modern, community-focused plumbing business should be.

It’s not just about reliable service. It’s about creating an experience where you feel looked after, listened to, and valued. That’s why so many of our clients come back to us time and again – because they know they can count on real care, real respect, and real results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes, you can negotiate with plumbers. However, you need to understand what affects their prices and the strategies they use to set them. There is a balance between negotiating to save money and paying your plumber a decent amount for their professional services.

Sydney Plumbing Emergencies often happen late at night, early in the morning or on a weekend/public holiday? These problems always seem to come at the worst possible time. For this reason, there are often plumbers who will take advantage and advertise rates that are often too good to be true in the hope you book them in and then, once
locked in, jack the prices up, usually 2-5 times the regular rate.
For all Sydney plumbing emergencies, we charge a flat fee between $250 - $350 + GST, which covers the after-hours call out to your door and will usually cover the minimum costs associated with making the property safe as this is our number one priority. Once onsite, you will never pay any extra rates for after-hours services. From midday to
midnight, the rate you pay will stay the same as if the works were done during regular operating hours.

The best way to find the plumber is through a trusted referral; often, it is best to engage a Sydney plumber with whom someone you know already has been involved with and has used. If you do not know a trusted local plumber, the next best thing you can do is check their credentials and do research online and check their reviews.
Online reviews are a great way to gauge if a plumber's previous clients were satisfied with the quality of their products and services, check out Proximity plumbing reviews.
Furthermore, evaluate only plumbers who can deliver proof of insurance and business registry. In some circumstances, you can also ask the plumber how long he has been in the plumbing industry. The more experience the plumber or company has - the better the service usually is.
Our top tip is to check their Google reviews! If a person you trust can recommend a local Sydney plumber they have used in the past, it's a clear indication if the plumber is reliable and worth engaging. Typically a paying customer pays close attention to costs, the quality of the service, and the value they receive and often will go out of their way to share their experience with a local plumber in Sydney.

The cost of hiring a plumber will depend on the scope of work, your location and their level of experience. There are simple plumbing jobs such as tap repairs to more complicated ones like a burst pipe. There are plumbing tasks that are calculated on an hourly basis while others offer flat rates based on the scope of the job. Always ask for itemised quotations to plan your budget and avoid pricing surprises.

2. The old saying, “too good to be true” sums it up! do your research & shop local
3. It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little- licensed vs unlicensed plumber blog here.

If you’re suddenly in need of a professional plumber, your next thought may be “how much do plumbers charge?” And it’s a fair question - we’ve all heard the horror stories of plumbers ripping off clients left, right and center.
How Much Do Plumbers Charge?
It is one of the most asked questions in the industry. How much do plumbers charge in Sydney Australia? The answer is: It depends on the company and the service. “Plumbing” is a very general term and covers all things from replacement washers and burst Flexi hoses to a full pipe relining job. Different plumbers will structure their quotes differently, but here’s something to be wary of: super cheap and overly “easy” quotes.
Proximity Plumbing does not have an hourly rate; we charge by the job. Although this does not appeal to everyone, we have found this is the most transparent way to conduct business. When it comes to plumbing, every job is different. That is why you are calling us in to fix it. We often find we need to see the problem before letting you know how much it will cost to fix it. That is why we offer the complimentary call out, and once we are on-site, we can determine what the job will cost. Each type of job has an upfront fixed price, and we need to determine what that is by conducting a thorough inspection.

When it's NOT the time to DIY plumbing!
There’s an awesome sense of achievement when you’ve had a morning of being a handyman or handy woman around the house, fixing things and feeling like Tim the Toolman (for all our growing-up-in-the-90’s readers).
But when it comes to your home’s plumbing there are a few instances where DIY is not the best course of action. Professional plumbers spend years learning their trade for good reason - those pipes can be tricky!
So here are 5 times when DIY is not your friend and it’s time to call a professional plumber:
- In an emergency situation
- If you’re having sewage issues
- When you smell gas
- You have a leak

When it comes to plumbing jobs, the simpler the job is, the cheaper it will be. Conversely, the more complicated a job is, the more costly it will become.
Sydney is home to a vast number of highly skilled local plumbers so the cost range of services will reflect this. Because the market is competitive for tradies, Sydney consumers should do their due diligence to make sure they are choosing the right plumbing professional for the job when comparing plumbing costs.
More specialised jobs require more specialised plumbers, so these jobs will be more costly. This occurs because they require more training and additional conditions on their licence.

The short answer is: no, here’s why: just like seeing a doctor, a doctor cannot examine you or diagnose you over the phone without a personal examination; its much the same with plumbing, its best we investigate the issue first before providing you with a solution and a price.
We do this by offering a $0 call-out fee on all jobs, once onsite and have investigated the issue we can then provide a solution moving forward, if approved we will carry out the work, if not there is no obligation - you can find out more about our pricing and the reason why we don't like to provide prices over the phone our pricing page: https://proximityplumbing.com.au/plumbing-prices/
Unfortunately, too many plumbers will give quotes over the phone. This is entirely unprofessional and no more than a marketing ploy to entice you to engage them to solve your problem. Would you expect a doctor to diagnose a medical condition over the phone? It's easier to diagnose a medical issue over the phone than a plumbing problem, but no doctor will do so without first examining you.

It's a question we get asked on the daily: "Does my homeowner's insurance cover sewer line?"
Firstly, let us say that before you go searching online for what your homeowner's insurance covers when it comes to plumbing, check-in first with your existing insurance provider. Read thoroughly through the fine print to get an idea of what is covered and what is not covered in your existing homeowner's insurance policy related to plumbing.
Place a call to your provider if you're finding it hard to work your way through the policy conditions.
Each insurer is slightly different, and it depends on what type of cover or extras you have nominated at the beginning of your policy commencing with the provider.
As you experience a plumbing problem like a blocked drain, blocked toilet or flooding resulting from a burst pipe or leak somewhere, you might not realize the root cause of the problem. However, once a professional plumber investigates the issue, more problems may arise, like tree root infiltration, sewer main line blockages or collapsed pipes that require relining or replacement.
This is when you would like to know whether or not your homeowner's insurance policy covers you.

While pipe relining is better than replacement in most circumstances, if the damage to your pipes is significant, pipe relining may not be sufficient. Therefore, it's essential to have a professional assess the damage to determine whether pipe relining is possible. if not, you'll need pipe replacement.
To help indicate cost. We have found that most relining jobs are generally 20% cheaper than what it would cost to excavate and replace the drain. The benefit of relining is that all work, in most cases, gets completed on the same day, and there is no mess or disruption to your property.

If you're looking for a quote to reline your pipes or your sewer line and you're concerned that you have a ‘harder’ job site for whatever reason, please reach out and talk with our team at Proximity Plumbing today. We can give you an obligation free quote and take you through the process, explaining the specifics of your property's pipe relining quote so you understand every element of the quote and can make an informed decision.
Another element that can affect the final cost of your pipe relining is the number of bends within the piece of pipe being relined and the number of junctions within the pipe.
A huge advantage of pipe relining is that the intersections and access points are mostly undisturbed. Because pipe relining creates a ‘pipe within a pipe’ the process uses the infrastructure you already have in place (so the disruption to your system and your property is minimal.
Because of the CCTV footage we use with inspecting your pipes before any relining service, our team will have a visual of exactly where the bends and junctions occur along your pipeline and will be able to include any work that’s needed to reinstate junctions and inspection points within the initial quote. Each junction along the line is inspected before we start any work. Once the pipe is relined, one of our senior professional plumbers will use a special robotic cutting machine to reinstate the junctions and access points. So the time, equipment and labour needed to complete the pipe relining job with junction cuts is something that can contribute to the final cost.

The dried Brawoliner resin and lining have been certified to be environmentally friendly by the German Institute for the Environment and Hygiene making it perfect for sensitive areas such as near streams and rivers. The specially designed lining product can be hot cured and set in place in as little as 2 to 3 hours.
Brawoliner is particularly good around waterways, streams, and important ecosystems as there is no need to dig up the pipework - reducing the impact on these ecosystems. The flora and fauna at the site of the reline will not experience a change in their environment. The dig and replace solutions are invasive and will disrupt ecosystems for days, months or even years.
