Emergency Checklist

  1. Turn Off the Main Water

  Supply Locate your main water shut-off valve - usually found at the front of your property near the water meter. Turn it clockwise to stop all water flow into the building.

  If your emergency involves a hot water system failure, burst tank, or leaking relief valve, switch off the power supply at the circuit breaker or the gas isolation valve.

  3. Turn Off Gas at the Meter (If Gas Leak)

  If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, turn off the gas at the meter using the isolation valve. Do not operate any electrical switches, appliances, or open flames. Evacuate and call from outside.

  4. Open Taps to Relieve Pressure

  After shutting off the main valve, open the lowest taps in the property (such as a garden tap or laundry tap) to drain remaining water from the system and relieve pressure.

  5. Contain the Water

  Place buckets, towels, or containers under active leaks. Move furniture, electronics, and valuables away from affected areas. If ceiling leaks are present, puncture the bulge to release pooled water in a controlled location.

  6. Document the Damage

  Take photos and video of the damage before clean-up begins. This documentation is essential for insurance claims and may be required by your insurer.
